World Aids Day - 1st December Yahoo! for Good is supporting two charities, Trans Tanz and Hope HIV.

You can make a difference

More people than ever before are living with HIV in the UK and new infections continue. HIV is a serious long term condition and people living with HIV often face discrimination. Whatever your HIV status, there is a role you can play in ending HIV prejudice and stopping the spread of HIV.

Trans Tanz

Trans Tanz is a charity that works in rural areas of Tanzania to provide people living with HIV and AIDS with ARV drugs treatment and CD4 testing equipment. These drugs are available at regional Health Centres without charge but many poor Tanzanians living with HIV/AIDS are unable to afford the cost of public transport to access them. Our project will help keep hundreds of HIV and AIDS patients alive.

Trans Tans

Since launching in 2006, Trans Tanz have been supplying a free bus service, transporting patients to and from the Health Centres and their homes. This World Aids Day marks the launch of Phase Two – with the ultimate objective of using motorbikes to deliver drugs and test kits from the Health Centres to the patients’ homes. The new phase will hugely increase the number of patients that can be serviced as the current project is limited by the number of days that Health Centres are open and the capacity of the bus.

Trans Tanz

Trans Tanz are looking to raise £150,000 to fund this project in its entirety and are looking to raise £10,000 this World Aids Day! This is sufficient to buy the first team of 7 motorbikes.

HOPEHIV

HOPEHIV is about the generation of hope.  HOPEHIV supports children and young people in sub-Saharan Africa orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS. They have the potential to make Africa’s future one of hope, rather than despair.

HOPEHIV’s work generates real hope through:

HOPEHIV
  • Emotional and social support
  • Education
  • Economic empowerment
  • Child rights

The UK office is building a network to support community-based projects in Africa.  Those projects are selected and monitored by a team in South Africa and Tanzania.

The charity landscape is blurred with organisations helping African orphans. HOPEHIV is defined by:

  • Productive partnerships: HOPEHIV helps projects generate income or access grants. HOPEHIV helps people connect, not just give and receive
  • Investment: HOPEHIV seeks social return on investment and local partners for long-term results
  • Enterprise and innovation: HOPEHIV encourages entrepreneurial fundraising and income generation. They seek projects that solve old problems in new ways
  • Being positive and passionate about potential: By helping to realise the potential of individuals, HOPEHIV are changing the future from the bottom up
