Who we are

Save the Children

We’re working around the world and round the clock to change children’s lives for the better.

What we do and who we help

10 million children die every year before reaching their fifth birthday. That’s appalling. One in three children lives in severe poverty in the UK. We think that’s unacceptable. We’re working flat out to change this.

We focus on key issues in the development and well-being of children and their families: health, protection, rights and economic justice, education, and freedom from hunger.

In emergencies children are the first to suffer. And we’re first on the ground delivering life-saving relief. We stay when the cameras have gone, rebuilding shattered communities.

We work in 52 countries around the world, creating lasting improvements.

And we campaign for changes to unfair legislation. We lobby governments to improve children’s lives, and we rally people into action to campaign along with us. With your help, we can save children’s lives.

What we are doing right now

Save the Children's global campaign now means that you can log on to www.savethechildren.org.uk, and interact with Kroo Bay, a slum built on a rubbish dump on the banks of the filthy 'Crocodile River' in Freetown, Sierra Leone. With one in four children dying before their fifth birthday, it is one of the toughest places in the world for a child to survive.

Kroo Bay

The website will allow families to ask the residents of Kroo Bay questions and experience what life is like for the 4,000 children living in the slum. Log on and navigate around 360-degree images of the site, and catch up with the latest news from the slum through regular 'webisodes'.

Re-visit the site in a month's time and you will be able to watch the changes that have been made for the residents of Kroo Bay on your computer screens thanks to your donations.
