The National Autistic Society exists to champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and to ensure that they and their families receive quality services appropriate to their needs.

Autism is still a relatively unknown disability, but over 5,000 children are newly diagnosed each year and over 535,000 families across the UK are affected. Autism is a lifelong learning disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults with autism have difficulty with everyday social interactions and often a limited ability to develop friendships. However, with the right care and intervention at an early age, many people with an autistic spectrum disorder can go on to live independent lives.

Over 100,000 people a year benefit from our services, which require constant funding. With your support the NAS can continue to provide learning opportunities, training and support for people with autism, their parents and professionals.

Last year runners in the Flora London Marathon raised £170,000 for the NAS. Some of this money has been used to improve the facilities in our schools for children with autism, to train volunteers as befrienders, and provide support to parents whose children have recently been diagnosed with autism.
