Education is a basic human right and fundamental to the fight for human dignity and freedom. For 80 million children and 800 million adults, that right is violated everyday.
The Global Campaign for Education promotes education as a basic human right, and mobilises public pressure on governments and the international community to fulfil their promises to provide free, compulsory public basic education for all people; in particular for children, women and all disadvantaged, deprived sections of society.
It would cost $16 billion a year to have every girl and boy finish school and to teach all adults to read and write. That's less than the world spends on potato chips every year and equivalent to 1% of the global military budget.
The numbers may seem too high for us to influence. But we can — and we will. If you want to help us, all you need to do is go to http://www.sendmyfriend.org. You can find out more about the campaign and add your name to our petition to get governments around the world to keep the promises they've made.
World leaders are meeting on 6th June, and that is our chance to really make a difference.
