The 1.2 Start&Stop edition, which features automatic engine shut-off when the car is at standstill, boasts 58.9mpg fuel economy combined and just 113g/km - and even better figures if you opt for the ultra-responsive Dualogic automatic gearbox.
You can also eco:Drive like a maniac. Just plug any USB stick into the Blue&Me Multi-media port in the Fiat 500. It will collect data about the way you drive, which is then analysed on your PC or Mac. This dinky little device will tell you if you’re revving too much and look at your other habits, before giving you some tips on how to change your drive style, save fuel and cut emmissions.

Frugal doesn’t have to mean boring, so each of the Fiat 500’s three engines is designed to provide maximum fun with shoestring economy. Choose between a zingy 69bhp 1.2-litre petrol or a punchy 1.3-litre Multijet diesel for outstanding fuel economy and low emissions. Or for something racier, go for the 100bhp 1.4-litre petrol - still frugal but plenty quick.
